Modern video games are a preservation nightmare. Taking off in popularity with the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Title Updates became a part of games, a way for developers to supply additional content or fixes for the game without publishing new physical media for software. Convenient for both parties, yes, but when the update servers go down, this content is lost with no (legal) way of preserving it for the future.

Additionally, publishers eventually discovered it was cheaper to not ship the software in a playable state on the disc, only storing portions (if any) of the data on a smaller size disc, and making an internet connection a requirement for initial play. This makes the games of this nature on your shelf completely useless. We're also entering a new era where games will lock features or the entire game behind an active internet connection throughout the duration of your play.

This is a community-supported list of games of these natures. So, as a consumer, you can make educated purchases on physical game content. It uses GitHub issues as a medium for contribution. Clicking on an entry directs you to said "issue" which will provide more detail on the limitations of a title.
